replacing points
I have a 1967 F100, 240c,i 6 cylinder.
Is it possible to get rid of the old distriibutor and points. If so any recomendations or suggestions on how to do it.
Are there major wiring changes that need to be done, ie; alternator, etc.
Sorry if this seems like a dumb question.
Thanks,
Mike

If your distributor is in good shape you can just replace the points with a Pertronix unit. It'll only take about 20 minutes. There is a little electronic box that screws on where the points go and a magnetic pickup thing that slips over the 8-sided cam. I put one on my 302 about a year go and it just works.
Besides never having to adjust or replace points, it allows you to run a higher voltage coil which in turn allows you to open up the spark plug gap. All this will make a noticable improvement in how your truck runs.
Do a search on Pertronix and you'll all kinds of info.

Maybe you would know, is there a distributor that would be an exact fit that I would not have to rebuild? Just drop it in, coil all built in, sort of like what more late model cars have.
Or is it just as good to upgrade what I have. I have heard some problems with low voltage after upgrading to Petronix.
Also, with the upgrade, do you remove and replace the existing coil too?
Thanks again,
Mike
