I've had my 2011 F-250 6.7L PSD since last March. It has a little under 7000 miles on it. According to the manual, the instrument cluster will display "OIL CHANGE REQUIRED."
Perhaps I'm being paranoid, but it seems like the first oil change should be required in the first year.
When did you 2011 6.7PSD need its first oil change?
I guess I am more paranoid than you.
I changed to Rotella T6 at 5,000 kM (3,100 miles).
I change my oil every 10,000 kM (6,200 miles).
I have never waited for the "oil change required" to come on but I believe it can be anywhere between 5,000 and 10,000 miles depending on the conditions.
I think the manual says to follow the IOLM or 1 year.
I'll have to look.
Most I've gone was around 5,600.
It will be closer to or at 6,000 when I get around to changing it hopefully next weekend.
My IOLM comes on around 6,900 to 7,200 because I tend to forget to reset it after a change.
I always wait for the truck to tell me when to change it and I don't give it the slightest thought. It's usually around 8,500 miles or so.
There is a decent amount of information that the truck monitors to make the right decision on when to put fresh oil in it. Following it saves money and resources. I don't blame you for being nervous about it, do what makes you sleep well at night, but the truck does track things.
7100, 13500, 20900, 26500. The last one was the only one I did before the truck said to and that was just because I was getting ready to leave on a pretty good road trip and it's a lot easier in my driveway than away from home. I'm confident if Ford's engineers thought there was a benefit to changing oil sooner than what the message center says to the message center would be programmed differently.
I haven't taken any chances with mine - 5,000 miles every oil change and 15,000 fuel filter change. I haven't rotated the tires yet this oil change, but when I get a chance I'll do that too. I'd rather stay a bit overly cautious and do things early than end up with an issue later down the road, which may still happen but I believe the early changes are good.
