2000 Navi starts w/4cylinders (1bank) then switches over to other bank (4cyl) instead of 8

Hi, my 2000 Lincoln Navigator starts on 4 cylinders on bank 1, then when giving throttle the engine switches over to the other 4 cylinders of bank 2, not the full 8 cylinders and then cuts off. The mechanic suspects it's the intake manifold air valve. He doesn't know how to test it, so I don't want to buy this for nothing. Can anyone give me some ideas? thanks

I want to add that there are no engine codes. Before there were misfires, but that was caused by water entering the coils, that has been fixed

you mister got your self a hybrid

jk is the vehicle overheating? ford has a overheating protection system which would kill 4 cylinders and run 4 to reduce the heat for the engine so i think it might be a sensor ?

I will check that. The mechanic explained me that a Navigator has a built in feature to start and drive lean (running on 4 cylinders) and as soon as you step on the gas, you get access to all your 8 cylinders, is this true? or baloney?
