Calling Tylus... Might trade the Expy for a Super Duty...
So my wife turns to me the other night and tells me she thinks it would be a good idea to trade the Expy in and go back to the truck route. She says I act like "Mariah Carey the diva" because I refuse to put crap into the back of my Expy! And she's right. I HATE putting dirty crap in the back of that truck and I won't do it! SO, we've pretty much decided to look at trading in the Expy for a Super Duty 250. I'll be looking for a crew cab model in the 07-08 year range since that pretty much fits in the price range I'm looking for....
How do you like your SD? I see you got the Powerstroke. Did you test drive the 5.4 or were you just looking for the Stroke? There are a couple around me on sale now and some are gas, some are diesel. Not sure if I care too much either way since I do very little towing. I guess I could go either way unless there was a serious reason to go one over the other. I miss having the bed so that's the biggest reason to go back. I love the Super Duty look and that's where I'm headed this time. How has yours treated you? Any issues, problems I should consider? I see this SRW and DRW attached to some of them. The SRWs are the smaller axle housings or something?
If you have a minute, let me know how you like yours. I have to grab a test drive in something this week so I'll have a better idea but I'm always interested in hearing others opinions on trucks and such. If anyone else has a Super Duty and wouldn't mind sharing, that would be cool too!
SRW is Single Rear Wheel, DRW is Dual Read Wheel, obviously referring to if it's a single or dualie truck (the F-350 can be configured as either or).
I do have to ask, why the SD over the F-150. The F-150 can do even more than the expy (because it doesn't have a big heavy butt to haul around), and SD is just that much more. I mean yeah based on looks I like SD's more, but the fuel milage is pretty crappy from the looks of it compared to the F-150.
Just my thoughts of course - and I bought the diesel in 2006 because I really liked it - but then diesel would go to a dollar a gallon in the summer. As everything has become more complex, usually more reliable, but not always, I might offer that getting a 2005 to 2007 F250 gas, either the 5.4 or maybe the V10 would get you what you want with the simiplist powertrain. Others can offer what transmissions went with what engines, don't remember right now.
Based on what you describe and I know some of the 6.0 diesels have been OK - not sure I would go that route for what you have said. Maybe if you could find a low milage 2002/2003 with the 7.3 Powerstroke Diesel, sure go that route, but even then and as much as I like the diesel from those years, might want to stick with gas.
Loud power stroke ........ Huh that's what I like about mine. The 6.0 is a lot faster then the 7.3 but has a ton of emissions crap too. Hope you fine something you like.
I didn't think Firefighters drive F-150's? F-250's at minimum. After towing for years with my 5.4l Expy, I traded up to a 2007 CC, SRW,PSD. Wow! No comparison for towing or just plan old driving. To other comments above, once you go diesel, you don't go back.
Fuel is more but 19 mpg isn't too bad either.

I did the same thing. After towing the 25' enclosed trailer with the Expedition and moving to the Super Duty I was blown away. I always thought the Expy did alright considering how heavy the trailer was but the Super Duty is an ox.
