Remote Start Quirks - Duration, Climate Control

Within the past 2-3 weeks I had posted in another thread about getting the remote start to kick on the climate controls - I was having some trouble with that. Well, the past week it has worked fine - of course its been warm enough that there hasn't been any frost to warrant the use of the defroster and it decides to finally work....

I leave my defroster on (by itself, not with the floor vent), heat all the way up, and the fan speed up a bit and every morning it has worked this week. Except for once.

I checked my duration one day and noticed it was on 10 minutes. So I bumped it up to 15 minutes and let it start up sooner before I went out the door. This worked great. Then I went out to the truck yesterday, after remote starting it at my new "early" time, and the truck was off. I know it started because I watched it and heard it from the window. The timer reverted itself back to 10 minutes. I have not had the batteries disconnected at all.

So far the two "quirks" I have seen is the climate controls not coming on to the last-on-settings and the timer not staying put. I will keep track of what it does and if I experience further issues with it I will have a dealer look in to it.

Does anyone else have any information on having the above quarks too?

As I understand it, the settings on remote start are to "auto".

The tech at my dealership said the heated/cooled seats will not come on using remote start.

Oh and by the way: it's quirks and not Quark - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

My heated and cooled seats work great with the remote start. They always have for me. They're cold in the summer and warm in the winter when I use remote start.

Hate to tell him but he's wrong Herman. Mine come on with the remote start and work great.

So you're saying the two issues aren't elementary particles of matter?

Thanks for the correction, I fixed it for ya.

I tried the Auto setting before and couldn't get anything to work. The fan was off when I would remote start the truck - even on days with frost on the window. The manual mode seems to be working through, which is what I would prefer anyway as I can set it to what I want.

If my climate control is set to say 75 degrees the night before and the next morning it is 25 degrees my windows are defrosted and my seats are nice and toasty within the 15 minute remote start duration. It is a sweet feature. I just wish that my high idle mod would work so that I could leave my truck to idle for longer without worrying about wet stacking issues.

Are the heated/cooled seats in a certain package?? I usually don't see them listed when I am on the Ford site.

Mine doesn't turn on the heated/cooled seats when I use the remote start. There are no issues with the climate control, whatever I have it set to, runs when using remote start. I know there are others on this site that have reported that their heated/cooled seats turn on when they remote start. I wonder if this is a certain computer update that introduced this or is there a setting that needs to be turned on in order for this to work?

They're included in the Lariat Interior Package and the Lariat Ultimate Package. In Canada, they're apparently standard on the Lariat regardless of other packages.

Not sure if there's a flash that can be done or not. I know mine are warm when I go out after remote starting the truck and you can actually feel the warm air blowing through the seat. In the summer, I didn't really use the remote start enough to know whether or not my cooling feature is working with the remote. I would guess that if the heating feature is working, the cooling would as well.

All right, this is causing quite a ruckus at my dealership. John, would you mind snapping a picture of your dash for me?

I got handed a document today (that I'm not about to retype here) that more or less states that the heated/ cooled seats will not operate when the vehicle is remote started.

From the Owner's Manual:

REMOTE START CLIMATE OPERATION (IF EQUIPPED)
The climate control system will condition the cabin temperature during
remote start based on the outside temperature. Engine idle may increase
to help with adjusting the cabin temperature.
Note: No climate control adjustments will be recognized during remote
start operation. Once the ignition is cycled to the on position, the climate
control system will return to the previous settings (last ignition-on cycle)
and adjustments can be made normally. If the previous setting was off,
the climate control system will turn off.

Manual climate control
For hot weather conditions:
• The climate control system will be set to MAX A/C.
For cold weather conditions:
• The climate control system will be set to provide maximum heating
in (floor/defrost) mode.
• Rear defrost/heated mirrors (if equipped) will be activated.
For moderate weather conditions:
• The interior cabin will be heated, cooled or off, based upon the
previous operating state (last ignition-on cycle).
• Rear defrost/heated mirrors (if equipped) will be deactivated.

Automatic climate control
For hot weather conditions:
• The interior cabin will be cooled to 72°F (22°C).
• The cooled seats (if equipped) will be set to high.
For cold weather conditions:
• The interior cabin will be heated to 72°F (22°C).
The heated seats (if equipped) will be set to high.
• Rear defrost/heated mirrors (if equipped) will be activated.
For moderate weather conditions:
• The interior cabin will be heated, cooled, or off, based upon the
previous operating state (last ignition-on cycle).
• Heated/cooled seats (if equipped) will be deactivated.
• Rear defrost/heated mirrors (if equipped) will be deactivated.

Here are two pics of mine.....one with the ignition off and the other with it on. Regardless of what I leave my climate controls set at, the heated seats are on high as is the heater when I get in it so long as the outside / ambient temperature is within the preset parameters.
