So I have ended up with a '76 F250 since I bought my '86 F250. In all reality I only need one truck and can't justify the extra insurance, space and upkeep of having both. The problem is that values of 2wd trucks dropped out around here and I bought it for $1600 and put a little bit into it to make it reliable. Nowadays I would have to ask for $1,000 just to get someone to call and low-ball me. So it comes down to sending it off to the junkyard or recycler after pulling some good parts off of it and be done with it. Dealing with CL and selling it for chump change or parting it myself, Or sell the '76 and drop the 460 into the '86. The advantage of the earlier truck is that it is a supercab where as the '86 is a single.
To those who have parted trucks what are common items that don't sell? I figure that the motor and rear axle will sell quickly as would a nice bed and glass.
I'd rather just sell it whole for $1500 but that doesn't seem likely these days. Which is too bad because it starts and runs great and will even get 17mpg.
I have less into the '76 so selling that is also an option. I just happen to like that body style better.
I would think most all the parts would sell if they're any good. What motor/trans does it have? Where are you located? If you part it I could use a good factory tach.
You may not have much luck with local sales but if you're willing to ship stuff there are probably quite a few things you could sell here. Throw the engine, transmission and axle(s) on craigslist.
Ford Brotherhood,
do you happen to have a D5AE-BA head? Casting number in valve cover area near end exhaust valve. Have one here ready to go and need another. If in California maybe able to pick-up, otherwise will have to make arrangements. How about it? Call 405-227-8556 or 858-560-1957. Thanks for the posting and consideration. Dan
Depending where you are at(whats your location) this have different value. If you are in CA the bed is worth nothing. If you are in PA, a clean bed is worth 1000. See what i mean? WHERE ARE YOU
I'm in Washington State. I know that it would be worth more elsewhere but would cost a lot to transport. Because of the lack of salt rust is less of a problem here and only maybe a little worse than CA.
-Dlap I don't know I will have to check the casting number. It would have to be shipped.
