I want to put the stock wheels and bigger tires on for winter here in "salt everything" New Jersey......so I don't have to clean the BMFs every day. What is the actual width of the stock 20" wheels? What is the largest tire I can put on them?
Those Nitto's are dying for winter use Andy, just spray her off often and you should be alright. I spray my truck frequently to keep this damn salt at bay.
What do you guys do to prevent salt damage to your truck? I was thinking Ziebart but I dont want the seperater or camera connection covered. Can you think of anything else under there that should be left clean? I also am leary of plugging drain holes and drilling too.
Forget about undercoating and look into Fluid Film. That stuff is the ticket to surviving winter salt!
On the stock wheel, a 305 is going to be about as wide as you want. The 8" wheel width isn't as much a problem as the crazy offset on those wheels. You can get a 305 tire that is 35" tall.
It worked pretty damn good last year. I bought a kit from eBay that had a nozzle for my air tank, a couple of bottles (one a brush bottle) and two 1 gallon cans for around a $100 if memory serves.
Good info about the Fluid Film; thanks.
Re tire size - I always thought the theory was that snow tires should be narrower rather than wider (to bite into the snow rather than float on top of it).
Of course, if NJ uses as much salt as it sounds like, maybe there isn't any snow to bite into.
