So I decided to repaint them and figured I could repaint my bed rails as well. I used Krylon Fusion satin black and Truck & SUV clear coat.
I applied two coats of black waiting 3 hours in between then applied the top coat. I let it dry overnight and put them back on today.
I think they came out pretty good.
I did repaint my bed rails two years ago with Krylon fusion but it was starting to peel. I believe this was because I didn't properly prepare the surface before I painted. This time I used a foam block sander 150 grit and lightly sanded the surface. Then I cleaned the surface really well with rubbing alcohol and let it dry before painting. Hopefully it will last longer this time however if it doesn't it only takes a day and minimal effort to fix.
If you spray paint & top coat with a clear coat sealer, can you later on down the road touch up over the seal coat without it looking odd, as the seal coat usually has more of a sheen to it than the top coat color?

Not sure because I don't touch it up I just repaint it only because to repaint it vs. touching it up woud take around the same amount of time if done properly.
