Toyota PS and 30 inch column

So from all the threads I have read, the consensus on steering columns is if you are running the Toyo PS box with the straight axle arrangement, you need to use the 30 inch columns sold by Flaming River, Ididit or an alternate wrecking yard column. Correct? Just want to make sure before I buy one. I had a 75 E150 column laying around but after checking out the fitment when the cab is back on, it is way too long.

Early 90's jeep cherokee used a 30" GM column. It is a keyed column, so if you don't need a keyed, you'll probably have to go aftermarket.

You planing on a column shift or a floor shift? If floor shift there might be other options from a wrecking yard, or atl least shortening one up would be no problem. Column shift, slim to none and even shortenting any of these doesn't allow enough room for the shift arm to clear the floorboard. Believe me, I tried with a '72 Chev Van column shift column. (by way of shortening it)

I got my chrome 30" column shift tilt column off e-bay via CPP. Check out E-bay as there are a couple other outfits including CPP that are selling knockoff Flaming river units at almost 1/2 the cost! I got mine and to be honest with you i couldn't really tell the difference between this knock off and a real flaming river unit. For all i know FR could have ran a huge run of these columns and are blowing them out under another brand. Who knows. But check out E-bay before you buy, could save yourself a bunch of $$$. And dont forget to get the proper u-joint to go between the Toyota box and the column you get.

The length of your column will depend on your seats, steering wheel and your preference of where you want the steering wheel. I would mock it up with a broom stick or PVC pipe before I shell out the $$ for a specific size. I went through this a few years ago and had to spend money to send the column back and restocking to get another one.

Just for info, I used a '70 Olds 442 non-tilt column with a Borgenson U-Joint. I'm a big guy so my seat is all the way back. It works perfectly.
