I have a coolant leak that just started... found the problem and would like some help identifying this part. I know it's basicly what controls the flow to the heater core. From the pic's below you can see where it broke. Any help with this is appreciated!! Also would it be a problem if I take it out and just connect the 2 hoses together as a temp fix till I get the part?
That's the heater control valve. It stops flow through the heater core when the heater is off or on max a/c. You can take it out and put a union in there until you get it replaced. Make sure you plug off the grey vacuum hose. There might be a nipple on the heater core box that you can hook it to that will plug it.
Some early trucks didn't even have this valve. You should be able to get a replacement from Ford pretty easy and some parts houses might also have it.
If you buy the part from your local Ford dealer, it comes with the entire heater hose as one piece. I don't know the part number off the top of my head, since I've only ever had to replace this part once, in the years that I've been wrenching on these beasts.
