Power Steering leak Pressure hose

I have 99 f250 SD SC V10 4x4 I just bought and it has a power steering leak. I thought it was just the teflon o-ring but I replaced it and it still leaks. With the fitting tight the steel hose still feels loose. Is there another seal or is the hose bad?

My truck has 252000 on it but it is real clean and was well taken care of. I'm in love with how smooth and responsive the v10 motor is. I've been wanting one of these for a long time.

Thanks for the help

I would make sure the hose is fully seated. Other then that sounds like the fitting is worn out. Just replace the hose totally. I think I paid $30 at auto zone for it. Hope you get it fixed.

Well I got some good light under there are cleaned it real good. Put my glasses on (god I hate those things) and the leak is not the hose but the pump.

Looks easy enough. I think I'm missing a blot. There is a hole right behind the high pressure hose that looks like a mounting hole with no bolt. It has the other three. Anyway it looks like pull belt, unhook hoses, remove bolts holding it to block, remove pump. I love the fact that I can lay on my creeper and work under the truck on it's wheels. Anything I should know about on this job?

Is there a filter on the power steering?

No filter. You will need to rent a power steering pump pulley puller. The pump will not come out with out taking the pulley off, I don't like it either but it is the way Ford does it. You can rent the tools for free at your local auto zone. May as well plan on flushing the system out while you are at it, remember these pumps take ATF not power steering fluid. Also worth the extra money to pay for another motorcraft pump. I changed mine two years ago, didnt hear the ford one until it went out, replaced with auto zone product and it whines loud all the time. And since these trucks use that system to help with the brakes it is even louder. So it is worth it to buy a good one. You can go with parts guy Ed, or rockauto.com will have a good deal on them. But other then those details it is a easy change.

Thanks. Mine has conventional brakes so I don't have worry about that. I've probably have done a flush by time I get done. I've had the hose off twice before I discovered the trickle. And those O-rings self destruct once installed, No reusing those. I'm using the same Synthetic atf as tranny.

Oops. Sorry about that. I forgot I read you have a v-10 instead of the powerstroke. My bad. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks for the info Seth

I'll let you know how it goes. Whenever I ask about anything to do with the power steering they ask if I have hydroboost. I guess it was an option.

While servicing the tranny I discovered I didn't have a drain plug? The coverter is painted black so I'm assuming it's a rebuilt unit. I drained it started the engine for a few seconds. Drained what I could (10qts) and refilled it. I'll do another fluid change shortly to make sure I've got it flushed out fairly well. There was some fine dust on the magnet but everything looked clean. I know about unhooking the cooler line and pumping it out to do a complete flush. But given that the oil and everything looked clean I think just an early change will do just fine.
