Question High Flow Convertors

I've wanted true duals on my truck for the more than 10 years I have owned it. It needs new cats anyway. I wish we didn't have sniffer test here. So I am now finally going to do it. I'm going to run a pair of Dynomax Ultraflo mufflers. I think this would be a great setup for the future 351W.

Here is my question. I'm wondering what everyone has been using for high flow cats. I have looked at the Magnaflow ones. A couple of shops have told me that Cherry Bomb cats are good. I would like some small/short 2.5 inch ones. Which ones are good and which are not so great?

Also, Do I need to plumb the AIR pump to connect into the pipes before both cats or do the new high flow cats not need it?

Most new 3-way cats will not require or benefit from the air injection. It wont hurt them to get the air, just won't affect the cats either way, good or bad.

Thats good to know. I may still try to get it connected to both sides.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what brand to buy. I was also looking at Catco.

I love the Magnaflow spun series converter I used on my '92 F350 w/5.8L engine. For a 2.5" application I recommend the MagnaFlow Catalytic Converters - 49-STATE & CANADA 59926

Which model did you get Paul? The spun series model I purchased has a metallic substrate instead of ceramic. 2 years on it with no problems so far.

I have two magnaflow cats actually.. the newer one is a 94000 series oval universal and that is the one that is coming apart, the older one is a 54000 series round and it's still solid.

Ouch.... That is not a very good story at all. Perhaps a bad batch or someone "drop shipped" it before you received the newer model.

I've used the Catco and Magnaflow/Carsound cats on my vehicles. I haven't had any trouble with either brand, though the Magnaflow/Carsound pieces appear to be of higher quality.

Nope, I'm just running the front cat on that y-pipe. The second cat is sitting on a shelf here.
