A Ride in my LTL 9000

I took this video lasts week while I was going through Kansas City on my way back home. I had been to a truck show in South Bend IN. I had convoyed from South Bend to Iowa with some friends so I could pick up some truck parts in the Des Moines area..

You want to see roads in poor shape? Take a ride through to Long Island from any direction you will see the most insane roads in the country. Let's just say that gravel or dirt roads would be less harsh than the pothole infested dumps we call highways or parkways. Not to mention we have some of the highest taxes in the country. Go figure.

Nice video! That thing looks monstrous!

Its a great truck with plenty of power. Its actually a pleasure to drive. The front end and steering are tight. I have added extra sound and heat insulation and made it quieter and cooler for summer. It is a go any where truck and is very dependable. I am stretching the frame out to 250 inches and adding air ride to it this Fall. It will be a nice truck by the time I am finished. Here is a picture of the truck. I have Photo Shopped the stretched out wheel base and the sleeper on it. Right now it is red as in the picture but a shorter wheel base and no sleeper.

This is what the truck looks like now.

So what kind of gas mileage you get in that beast!? Do you have any shots of the motor? Super clean man! You clearly maintain your equipment! I bet you get better gas mileage than a stock 6.4!

Thanks for the comments on the LTL. The fuel mileage is not bad for a truck that heavy. About six months ago I bobtailed about 1600 miles and averaged 9.6 MPG. Pulling the trailer it gets about 7 MPG.

I agree the LTL's were very handsome trucks and Yes, I was driving when the video was made. I am the only one that drives it. the truck is mechanically very sound and body wise there is absolutely no rust anywhere on it. The truck came from the high desert in California and had never been run on roads with salt.

This is the only picture I have of the engine and I was putting new gaskets under the cam followers to stop an oil leak.
