I'm almost to the point of cutting my mahogany boards for my truck bed. I saw several trucks last year @ the Supernats with the "wide board" configuration. Basically just 5 boards instead of 8. Anyone who has done theirs this way care to comment? Pictures would also be appreciated. Thanks, Steve
Steve, I've not seen a thread on the subject, however, shouldn't be difficult to do...I suggest measuring and dividing the difference with the number of boards you want to use...I plan on doing something simular but with some extra modification to the box frame itself...good luck
I am using some brazilian cherry flooring boards for my bed, they are currently about 8 inches wide. I do not intend to cut them down. There is no rationale for keeping the boards the same width has Henry made them...unless you are looking for a bone stock restoration.
being a cabinetmaker, i will warn you of cup and twist issues with wide boards. the grain is verry important, if possible get quartersawn boards, readily available in red and white oak. but possiby available in other species aswell.
Here is some replacement I picked up a few weeks back. It is not installed just laying on top of the old for visual effect. A friend in Crossville, TN did it for me.
