So I was busy trying to find some rear shocks for my F350,and when I received the new fronts I thought"hey, lets see if they would work on the rear?"
Turns out the truck never came with rear shocks,so I am wondering if there is an F250 shock mount available. Anyone have an early f >>> that could tell me what the mounting system was? I believe there may be a lower mount that bolts on where the u bolts go through the bottom of the axle tube. I will make some mounts on the fame side, but need something for the lower.
HI I will take a look at mine tomorrow ..I know I have shocks back there but they were new when the truck was parked in 92 ..so they are still great..is yours on the road ..or are you rebuilding ??
Thanks so much,I really need to getsome shocks on this thing!
I am driving this truck every day,it had been parked since 1980 so it has needed some tlc,and rides like a tractor LOL. Finally got the other 2 new tires mounted today which was not easy, but definately helped it ride a little better.
Hi there sorry it took so long to get back to you ,I have shocks up front ..nothing on the back ..same as you ..looking at the front mounts I can see it looks like they welded on a mount on the axle and have a factory type on the frame...so it looks like we are both going to be making mounts ..I'm going to start by trying to find out what was stock ..if there was anything stock..or just see what is on my bronco and go from there..what rear end do you have?? the timkin style or Dana ?? I think the dana style had the lower mount in the spring pad ..and it would be just a matter of changeing the U-bolt mount ..let me know what you find under there...
Rear shocks were not normally on F-350 rears. Only the front. Rear shocks were, however, optional equipment. The same applied to my F-3s. Whether the F-250 rear lower shock mounts would work on your trucks I don't know, but suspect they would. I had a set from the F-250 M-H I parted out years ago, but they have found a new home. I do, though, Ken, still have the extension plates that M-H installed on the F-250 frames to lower the rear shock mounting location to compensate for the height of the lift blocks. If you find a set of the lower mounts, you might want these too.
Another option, instead of rear shocks, would be to carry about 1000# in the bed at all times. Should really improve the ride. Stu
on someone else's truck stu . i ended up going with 8.8 i have instead of the 9 inch which jay my buddy has now for his 50 .i don't have the 5 speed , long story about " family " , so i went with the lower geared rear diff and my t98 to allow me to buzz around at a friendlier rpm . and i can so relate too stuff sitting around on the shelf as it were ....................
