I know everyone is making big plans for the long weekend... even saw a thread on it...
but lets not forget why we can do all that stuff... How bout first thing Monday, find a quiet place and say a prayer for the men and women who provide you with a safe secure place to play. Think about all those that won't be around this Memorial Day to play with their toys or with their kids...
While you're at it... tell you kids what the day is really about and why we celebrate it... it ain't just an excuse to burn meat...
I always include our military men and women in our Thanksgiving feast prayers and remind my teenage kids regularly that they are afforded their freedoms of speech, etc because of the many GREAT folks known as the military.
THANK YOU to all that have served past and present in the military, it let's me and my family sleep well at night knowing someone is keeping the "wolves" at bay.....

Thanks, John, for putting it into words. Couldn't agree with you more. Wish I had some profound statement to make......but just not very good at it. Thanks for the post and enjoy the holiday.
Thanks John. I am heartened to see the increased awareness in the sacrifices that our brave service members are making in our behalf...it wasn't that way when I returned from Viet Nam. Now would be a great time to make a contribution to the Fisher House or the Wounded Warriors Foundation so that these fine organizations can better follow through with their work in carrying our our good intentions.
I think it is great that our military is starting to get the respect they deserve. As was said, it wasn't like that in the Vietnam era. US army 1967- 1972
"To Capt. Brittles from C Troop. Lest we forget." .... to every 'Captain Brittles' we may know, personally, or publicly.
I will be personally doing my own thing, as I do every Memorial Day. This year, it will include the last of the greatest generation, as we laid her to rest earlier this month.
In Canada we have Rememberance Day Nov 11 (end of WW1) it's when we pay our repects to those who have served, serving, and for those that paid the ultimate sacrifice for their nation.
" ..at the setting of the sun, we shall remember them "
