I did not know if I should add this to the end of the TSB post or open a new one - so moderator friends please feel free to relocate as appropriate.
I brought my truck in for the TSB flash early last week only to be turned away becuase the dealer had not downloaded the newest software that included the new flash - no problem. Dealer promised to call me back when they were ready (I have only had minor problems with tip in and harsh 1-2 shifts, no missed shifts or CEL issues).
Dealer called me this afternoon to tell me that they had downloaded the newest TSB flash, but were being told by Ford to delay installing the flash on trucks due to an issue where the new flash is causing CEL lights to come on where there were not problems reported before the flash.
Is anyone else hearing this from their dealers. My dealer has been great to work with so far and has never given me any resistance to having the TSB installed like some, I just wanted to confirm if Ford really is pulling the TSB back - officially or unofficially. Thanks
Just called my dealer......taking the truck in @ 2:30 Tomorrow to get it done.....no problems far has I know....let you know in about 24 hrs 4 sure though
TSB 11-3-23 was pulled back in March. Surely this isn't what your dealer is referring to? The current flash is TSB 11-04-21. Make sure they have the right TSB and that their IDS is upgraded to at least 72.03. HTH
well, there are guys reporting the CEL again.. I haven't seen any reports on FTE of CEL now after TSB but never before TSB.. but that doesn't mean it isn't happening..
My response to that would probably be something on the order of...........
What I WILL delay doing is calling the District Service Manager, if you go ahead and do the flash like you were suppose to do. I would try to be polite, but firm and let them know that you are not going to take no for an answer.
Based on what your dealer said, he obviously hasn't seen this first hand since he hasn't upgraded any trucks. There is a lot of cross chatter going on between the shifting issue and the CEL with this TSB.
Some CEL owners are also experiencing tranny issues and the belief the TSB was supposed to fix both is incorrect from what people are reporting (although it sounds like the TSB was intended to correct both). SGT93's CEL came on again after the flash but I believe his shifting is just fine afterwards. If Ford is telling dealers anything, it should be that the TSB is correcting shifting irregularities but not the CEL problem.

My understanding of the CEL issue after the flash is that the initial diagnosis of the CEL was incomplete and the dealer was counting on a flash to do the job. Some trucks had NOX sensor failures or DEF pump/tank issues that were not diagnosed properly. Of course, when the TSB reflash was applied, it could not compensate for the diagnosis shortfall and a CEL appears. YMMV
Some dealers it appears understand there has to be a CEL so I'm reading different understandings here.
It appears the line of communication isn't working very well otherwise there would be a specific set of procedures.
Ford needs to inform the area managers, the AM's need to inform their dealers service managers then the SM's need to discuss with the dealership techs.
Dealerships know they have to follow test procedures so that's what their doing but if customers report an issue and the occurances have been documented, then apply a fix that addresses these exact concerns.
Some of these misunderstandings could probably fall to the AM's and not dealers themselves if they never knew.
I suppose procedures can always go unread...
I realize I'm reaching for anything. I don't work for Ford so I understand I don't know their procedures. Just sayin'
Called FORD they said they couldn't force the dealer to do it & advised me to go 2 another dealer.
I really like how the service mgr drove my truck less than 1 mile and was gone less than 2 mins and says "nothing wrong....no light....doesn't need the TSB".
Government should hire him he know that much and can figure things out that fast damn he could save tax payers billions $$$$$$$

You should remind Mr. Moron that the TSB covers an issue of shifting when the transmission oil is cold and it was not cold when he drove it.
