I have a question about the timing sets for the early efi 460's and the late 90's 460's. what's the differance. we have been working on this 97 and i have had trouble with my 89 running right. thinking maybe i have my timing chain set wrong. the one we bought for the 97 only has 1 keyway on the crank sprocket and mine has 9 keyways. I know they are set straight up on all efi's. we read somewhere that the the early efi's are still retarded 8 deg. are the timing sets for the early 460's preset at 8 deg and you still install it straight up or lining up the marks since there is only on keyway? cause if that is the case, i have the 0 on my gear on 0 when it should be on 8 deg.
As far as I know all the EFI engines use what are called "straight up" gear sets...Only difference with the EFIs being a different head starting in 93-94.. Look at the picture of the "staight-up" crank gear and you should be using the keyway that coresponds to this depending on the timing set is can be called O degrees or some multi keyway call it 4 advanced...
