i am currently trying to swap my e4od out of my 92 crew cab 4x4 f350 for a 5 speed i got out of a 92 ext cab 4x4 f250 both have idi 7.3l motors laxzy k was nice enough to forward me to a link where a member is currently swap in a ZF5. i have a couple questions.
1. what is a ZF5
2. How do i know what tranny the 5 speed is
3. When doing the swap from a e4od is it really so simple as remove the old put the new in and go since the e4od is electonically controlled.
4. does anyone have drive shafts they are looking to sell or an e4od since i am really only swapping because the 5 speed was a good option considering price and inclusion of the pedals shifter clutch pressure plate fywheel and master cylinder with the purchase of the tranny
The ZF5 is a 5 speed manual transmission made by ZF and was the only 5 speed manual available with the IDI diesel trucks. So any 5 speed manual trans that was behind an IDI diesel has to be a ZF5.
Yes, it is a direct bolt-in swap.
Although the E4OD is electronically by a computer, the engine is not, so even if you rip out the computer it will have no effect whatsoever on the engine. The only glitch is that the Neutral Safety Switch and backup lights are both switched by the Transmission Range Sensor so some wiring would have to be altered.
