Reconnecting a/c in 79 Lariat

I have a 79 Lariat with a/c controls in the cab, and an a/c "box" or whatever it's called under the hood where the heater core is also installed. Unfortunately I don't have the compressor, any other components under the hood (except a/c bracket), or the foggiest idea what is even missing. I assume there would be some hoses going from the a/c compressor into the same box as the heater core but should there also be another a/c core in there? How about the condensor? in front of the rad? Pictures would be great it thats possible. Please, any help with ideas how to get it reconnected.

Fords of this vintage used a York a/c compressor, a very stout and reliable unit. Unfortunately, also rather expensive to get a rebuilt one. A York off of most anything will work, just get a clutch and pulley for your truck. There should be a one- wire connector hanging around the compressor mount somewhere, this is power to the clutch. The condensor mounts in front of the radiator, and the discharge line from the compressor goes to this. From this, the high pressure line goes to the evaporator mounted in the box. The return from this goes first into a reciever/drier, which seperates the liquid refridgerant from the gaseous, and from there another line goes to the compressor. I would recommend that if you are going to re-do the a/c, get hoses that are good for R-134a, and the proper oil for the compressor. R-12, what this system was designed for, is very expensive nowadays, as it is no longer being manufactured. You can install all the parts yourself, but take it to an a/c shop to have it filled properly. Also, get a manual for your truck. They outline most of the a/c system.

Thanks for the suggestions. A few have suggested I just go with an after market system and I've considered that, call me dumb or whatever but a stock system would be would be my preference. Perhaps I should invest in one of the shop manuals, maybe on cd.
I think I should pull apart the heater/ac box and see whats inside. Might be less to acquire.

Thanks again for the help, this site is a great support.
