How long to get to operating temp?
I was wondering how long your 6.7 takes to get to operating temp unloaded?Does it take as long as the 6.4's?Our 6.4's at work take FOREVER to get up to temp.My 6.0 and the 6.0's at work aren't to bad.I can get my 6.0 to 190* in 8 miles.
Reason I ask is,I was talking to a guy at the gas station and he said that 6.7's use a strategy that gets them up to temp alot faster than previous Ford diesels.
Any truth to this?

Two things goes against fast warm up in diesels vs. gas.
a) combustion efficiency is such that there is less excess heat.
b) it gulps a full charge of air each rev, which tends to cool it
c) accessories (like the heater) drain off heat too

Wow thanks for the fast reply!That's good to hear.I'm looking into the 6.7 and if the warm up time's are similar to the 6.0,I would be ok using it for my 8 mile drive to work.

YW! I have an 8 mile drive as well. We had a really cold January but the truck would be warm for about 1/3 of the ride (25 minutes with traffic).

It is called the rapid supplemental heat option. Don't leave the dealership without this option. It can not be installed anywhere but the factory. Works great when the emp is below freezing. I remote start my truck 5 minutes before I go out the door. The heated seats come on and the rapid supplemental heat has the windshield defrosted by the time I get in. Nice!!!!

In any weather below freezing my truck takes at least 15 miles to warm all the way up. This is similar to what my 6.4L truck took to warm up.
These will heat up a bit faster if nothing else because of the aluminum heads.

.Remember as recent as a year ago many accused Ford of blasphemy when considering aluminum heads for the new 6.7l engine. Up until now everything was iron block and heads.

I was honestly a bit disappointed with my RapidHeat system. So much that I nearly brought it back because I didn't think it was working.
After measuring temps as well as thinking about it, 1,800W may seem like a lot but in -10° weather doesn't have as much effect as I would like.

Good,Thanks for the info.That helps me,It is a important to me to know I'm not gonna be driving the truck cold the whole time.I would plug it in at home...So the ride to work wouldn't be bad,but coming from work is a different story.I also don't have a beater jeep for nothing...
