Egr delete???

My truck has the original egr cooler headgaskets. Ive been waiting for something bad to happen to these famous defects but nothing yet, my question is that i finally found a good mechanic who knows the 6.0 very good and am trying to figure out if i should do the delete and headgaskets now. Or should i wait until they go bad first. 150,000 miles 2004

You can find your build date on a sticker in the door jam.

Easiest way to tell 03 from 04 motor is by the ICP sensor in the passenger valve cover on the 04 and up models.

Or round EGR cooler is the 03, square is the later years. Round = good

This mechanic i know is a friend of a friend and he can pretty much do all that work (EGR delete COOLER, headgaskets) for $1800.00 I was going to take advantage of the opportunity. Is that a good price???

That's a pretty fair price for headgaskets, etc.

Yes it is. Be sure to get the heads checked for flatness.

The answer to your question is purely a financial one. You would probably be OK with either direction.

Sure...you still want to filter the coolant to keep the oil cooler as free of debris as possible.

i also have an 04 and my question is why are the 03/04 egr coolers so much better on those model's? I was thinking of doing the delete on mine but if they are so much better, i will leave it alone. I just bought a donaldson setup for the coolant filter and am fixing to put it on.
