Hello, I have an 05 Lincoln Aviator with 105k on the clock. I have the AWD model, and when it is snowing and the front wheel engages, there is a loud banging sound coming from the front. Sounds like the left side. Also it usually happens when the wheels are turned and the front wheel engages.
When I " lock " it into AWD via the set up menu, there is a loud " whining" sound along with the banging sound when turning. Someone said it is probably the left wheel hub. I was thinking transfer case. Any thoughts? If it were the wheel hub wouldn't it make that whining sound all the time and not just when it is locked into AWD? Any help would be appreciated. I just changed the transfer case to Amsoil, and it's still making the noise. Thanks much!
