Since "ZF" is apparently too short...
The project: 1993 full-size Bronco (Yes the fellas in the Big Bronco Forum have already heard about it).
Losing: 302 (5.0) (1993)
Losing: "expletive deleted" E4OD (1993)
Gaining: 300 (4.9) (1992)
Gaining: ZF S5-42 (wide ratio) (1989 from an F-250 4x4)
Originally the plan was to simply swap the 300 and M5OD from the 1992 F-150 donor into the Bronco. However, I happened upon the ZF in trade for some old Mercury Grand Marquis parts I had laying around. Now I need to know what, if any, of the clutch and related components in the F-150 with the M5 will swap in front of the ZF and still work.
May I assume that a new/resurfaced flywheel on the 300 will work for the ZF instead of the M5? OR is the flywheel specific to the ZF? (This would seem odd but I don't know for certain so I'll just ask).
May I assume that the pilot bearing will need to be for a 1989 ZF?
May I assume that the slave cylinder must also be for a 1989 ZF?
May I assume that the clutch must also be for a 1989 ZF?
May I assume that the master cylinder from the F-150 with the M5 will make the ZF slave cylinder function properly? OR do I need to find a master cylinder for a truck originally equipped with a ZF?
Many thanks to any and all who may have answers.
The clutch master and slave should match year models - something changed (mounting hole pattern and/or piston diameter) sometime 93 or 94 I don't remember. Since it is a concentric slave, it is always a good idea to replace it with a new Ford OEM slave cylinder while you have access with the transmission out of the truck. If you use the '92 master cylinder, get a '92 slave for a ZF - if the 92 master cylinder doesn't fit in the '93 firewall, get both master and slave for a '93. The slave cylinder I bought came with a new release bearing.
