Sick of hour long warmup periods. Winter Grill cover Ideas anyone?
Does anybody know where the grill covers they used on last years IRT come from? I dont want the ugly ones. The one on it actualy snapped into each grill opening seperate if I remember right. Posable there hard plastic frame with something on top?
Just realized i forgot to put "Grill cover" in the topic, cant go back and edit. If a mod can change it for me. Thanks
Just do what I did. Buy yourself an Espar Heater. I did for the first time and what a difference it makes. I would never own a Diesel without one again.
Truck has a factory one. nowhere to plug it in though. truck is a good 200 yds away.. these apartments dont even have hose hookups... there was a gallon of milk spilled in the parking lot stinking for like 3 days before the rain washed it away
An Espar heater does not need to be plugged in. We use one on our zoom boom for work. Heats it up really nice and makes cold starts much easier. Just burns a bit of diesel - maybe half a quart in an hour (depending on the size of heater). The timer makes it easy as well to be warm when you need it.
How cold is it where you are? I wouldn't think that it would take that long to get warmed up.
I've used both Webasto and Espar heaters when I used to drive class 8 trucks. Espar is a Canadian company, and I think Webasto is German if I remember right.
I'm not sure which type of heater you guys are talking about; both Webasto and Espar make cab air heaters, "Air Top"(Webasto) and "Airtronic"(Espar). These are diesel-fired cab heaters. The base model produces 7,500 BTUs of heat which is enough to keep a truck sleeper and cab warm down to around 0° F. These consume 0.05 gallons each hour, or one gallon every 20 hours.
They also make diesel-fired coolant heaters, which heat and circulate coolant throughout your engine and heater core.
I live in Alberta, Canada and I work all over the Northern Country. My truck is my office. My Espar heater is a Circulating block heater. My Heater controls are wired up to the Espar. When my Espar starts up, my Heater fan automatically kicks in and warms my cab. This is my first time running one and I wish I would have got one a long time ago. Makes a huge difference. My previous trucks were always left idling day and night for weeks at a time. I didn't want to put this truck through that so the Espar was the only option. It makes a huge difference.
Its not that cold here.. maybe 35-40.... but most of my driving for the first couple hours is low speed low rpm.. maybe 1100 tops.. my transmission actualy beats engine coolant in warming up by about 20degrees
But yea, ive been answering thru my cell. Basicly I dont want to use extra diesel cuz its a waste for me. I just wanna get a grill cover. Will help it stay warm once it is warm for a little longer and help it warmup quicker.

Where did they find the space to mount the espar heater?
Anybody got a picture of the Kingranch on IRT? I liked how unless you looked close it looked like a normal truck. But between the big chrome bars it was sealed off with some kind of cover. Maybe something ford made to make the truck showoff its front on the show?
