The hole for the oil sending unit is 1/4". Get a 2 way block (available at auto parts stores) and screw it into your motor there that way then you can run your hose and still have a connection for your oil gauge. I'm going with Russell hose, they have 90 degree and 45 degree hose connectors. They also have AN to pipe thread adapters for the fittings. The fitting you will need to use for the front of the motor is 3/8" (next to oil filter). I'm going to use 90 degree hose ends with 06 AN hose, so with the block on top of the motor and the 90's I can basically aim the hose in any direction. I even contacted Russell and they said their hose was compatible for oil and had a burst rating of 1000 psi.

Well believe it or not there is a lot of room behind the flywheel to hide the line. This does require you to drill or grind a hole thru the block and then route the lines to one of the oil plug galleys that are under the flywheel..

Note this also works great for hiding NOS lines to the intake and plumbing the Intake from the underside . I seen this in a HotRod Mag. many years ago done on a Small Block Ch**Y....
That was back when the Clevelands where allowed to race.

oil line to the back

Here's the list of parts I used to fabricate the external oil line on my engine:

1/4" NPT - #6 AN nipple (oil passage in block)

90 deg. #6 AN - (nipple to hose)

4 ft. 3/8 in Gates hi press. hose (power steering hose)

45 deg. #6 AN (hose to nipple)

1/8" NPT - #6 AN nipple (into brass "T")

1/8" NPT brass "T" (for oil press sending unit)

1/8" NPT X 1" pipe nipple (pressure port to "T")

What application are we talking about?

The oil line trick has been debated for years and not done nearly as often anymore. It's definately not needed for a mild street application. The restrictors are another story.

Scroll down 2/3rds of the way on this site.

Search through some of the archives on the Cleveland forum site. I'll bet there's 250+ posts on the subject.

For the back of the block

You are suposed to use a bulk head and nut to go through the back of the block. From there I bend up a piece of steel tubing and then connect it to the port with a -4 to 1/8 pipe 90°.

I anyone is looking for these I work for a company that should be able to sell them to you

Steel tubing -YES! I use 3/8" -6 tubing for applications like this tho.

You can buy the parts from any hydraulic equipment distributor and at many farm supply stores.

With a higher pressure oil pump , could you put an oil cooler in the line?

You can connect that line thru an oil cooler. You would not need a HP or HV pump to use one.

Well, with the rebuild I have planned for the future , I might as well go with the Melling HV. Looks like plenty of room under the hood for a cooler. I'm even thinking of relocating the oil filter. (if they even make a by-pass for the 335 series)

Can I still go postal if I don't have enough stamps?

With a fresh rebuild a HV pump is not necessary unless someone makes a mistake on bearing sizes...

Figure that it's only a couple more bucks for the HV.
Cheap insurance along with the cooler.
