Red face Truth about crash test ratings

This has been bugging me for a while and I finally found out the answer to how and why the S(tupid)mart For Two could possibly get a 5 star front crash test rating.

Here is the answer... The vehicles are crashed into a fixed barrier that represents a SIMILAR vehicle.

SIMILAR being the key word here.
Similar weight, size, length etc. the only vehicle similar to a Smart in that respect is another smart.

http://www.safercar.gov/Vehicle%20Sh...Detail?ID=8047

also they did not test even test the convertible model....
Our Beloved Ex's must be over the weight requirement for testing cuz they never tested it.

So next time someone mouths off to anyone of us at a gas station or something you can set them all straight about their not so Smart car...

I figured the smarf would just curl up and roll away, like those roly poly bugs that fascinated me as a kid.

A Super Duty would have turned the concrete to dust. and its' occupants. tough to survive a crash at 70mph, it tends to make an omelet out of soft tissue and organs.

Likely because the occupants would have landed a couple of states away.

Another one. The smart looks like a soccer ball being kicked. Imagine an X hitting it.

I had not seen that one. that's cool see how the dummy's head still went thru and off to the side of the airbag whereas the MBZ the dummy just bounced off it a bit... Also consider the G forces transferred in all those sudden and rapid changes in direction as the ball gets kicked to the goal

When I first saw this video, I was slightly amused with the three-pointed star logo being flung off in slow motion. You can see it at one minute and fifteen seconds into the video.

The IIHS, along with the Smart and C-Class, also tested Honda's and Toyota's mid-size and sub-compact offerings against each other. The results were similar to the Smart vs. C-Class.

Be sure to checkout the gallery/pictures.

A one foot crumple zone? Your gonna die from the G force. At least you can have an open casket.
