if i were to get a bed that has this option, although it doesnt have the trim, just the "mounts", are there real visible holes? could i, lets say fill these holes with body filler and then paint over it?

 

I pulled off all my molding before painting, I wouldn't use any bondo, I would weld them up.
I bought a wire feed with the gas set up and did it myself, by the time you pay someone to do it, it would pay for the welder. Either way there will be some prep before you paint.
