I'm working on an 88 Ranger 2x4 2.0 (Carb) and have gotten it just about ready to be inspected. I'm only having one more problem with it. When the truck is running the headlights turn off and on roughly every 20 seconds. When the truck is off this length of time is a little longer. Also it's only the headlights. This does not affect the marker lights, tail lights, or anything on the instrument panel.
I'm thinking this may be due to the headlight switch or a relay. But, I can't find the relay (if there is one on this year). I wanted to find the relay if it's there to test it before replacing any parts.
If anybody knows where to find it or can provide any other suggestions to get this issue fixed it would be appreciated.
Sounds like the headlight switch. It has a thermal breaker inside it that would cut them off and back on when it cools. Real problem may be a short in the headlight wiring to cause it to trip the breaker.
