Having a problem with the headlamps on a 88 Bronco II. Brights work, parking lamps fine, but regular driving headlights don't go on. Already replaced the dash pull/dimmer switch. I'm thinking it's either the multifunction stalk switch on the steering column, or a headlight relay somewhere. Can one of you folks point me in the right direction on one or both of these questions:
1) Is there a headlight relay, and if so, where is it located?
2) Is there a recommended test procedure to see if the multifunction switch is bad?
Ken, thanks so much for replying. Suspecting the MFS, not knowing if/where a relay was, and having time to burn, I removed the steering wheel column and found the problem was a shorted switch with melted contacts. Do you have a recommended source for a replacement? Is this an item available from a local Auto Parts dealer like Pep Boys?
What troubles me is the REASON this burned out. Is this an item that just "goes" after a certain amount of time, or should I be looking for a deeper problem that caused the failure?
I would try your local parts stores or an online store, Ford would be $$$. They seem to be a common problem on Fords and other brands, check the wiring in the connector carefully too.
