I checked the classifieds, but didn't see anything....
Does anyone have, or know of anyone with an OD transmission that would fit my 53 Flathead 3 on the tree, for sale?
Ford made a 3 spd with overdrive for there cars. I have been looking for one too. There was one on ebay, but it was 6/volt electrical and I need the 12/volt. Found one with 12/volt ,but they would not ship it, had to pick it up. 2500 mile trip for me. They are out there on ebay , craigs list , and swap meets.
No, unfortunately the 55 is long gone (one of my life's biggest regrets was selling that truck). It was a later overdrive anyway, I'm not sure what it was out of - from the junk yard. It was behind behind a 64.5 Mustang 289.
The only difference between a 6V and 12V overdrive transmission is the solenoid, and they interchange.
There are many different transmission and overdrive housings (cases). You need to be aware what you need to fit your truck. The early circular bell housing bolt pattern found in the 48-52 trucks was shared with the 49 to early 51 Mercury. To install on of these in a 48-52 you have to cut your cross member out as the solenoid interferes. Starting in 53 the rear motor mounts were on the bell housing instead of the transmission. The transmission bolt pattern changed at this time and many (most?) overdrives for the cars from 49 on will bolt to this bell housing. This is why Julies was able to put a mid 60s overdrive in the 55 pickup.
let me ask ya's sumpthin" .... how in the hades do you find anything anyway in the classifieds now that it's all lumped together in one big pot ???? was easy before as i just selected the model years and for sale , buy etc. now well ............................
