This coming Saturday I will be picking up my 95 302 XLT, pending any problems. It is in excellent condition with 38k original miles on it. It currently has a Flowmaster dual exhaust system on it. It also runs 32" tires. I plan on adding a K&N filter to it and either gutting or eliminating the cat(s). PA does NOT check emissions, so I am lucky enough to have this option. The may be more mods in the future, like headers, aftermarket intake and heads. For now, I only plan on doing the mods previously mentioned. I have toyed with the idea of a turbo system, but I doubt i'll do it. I commute about 80 miles per day with a mix of highway and in-town driving with many hills. PA is a hilly state with a speed limit of 65mph, but traffic travels at better than 70-75mph for the most part. I also will be towing an 89 'stang on an open, all steel trailer during racing season.
My question is, based on my truck, mods and needs, what chip would you guys recommend. Basically, I need passing power on the higway and off idle puch to do some towing through a hilly country side. Understand, my previous truck was a 1000ft/lb turbocharged diesel Ram which would smoke the tires from a dead idle WITH the trailer and car on board through second gear. Now, obviously I don't expect that from the little 302 Bronco unless I work out a turbo system for it, but I do want the most power I can ring from it without doing so.
Since you don't have CARB (California Air Resources Board) to worry about and you're looking at custom code other than tire size changes Diablo is the way to go.
Its getting so there's less and less need for me to recommend Superchips over Diablo these days when it comes to gas applications. Diablo's custom template turn-around is much faster, costs less and the results are good. Plus with the small added cost of the Delta chip the upgrade path to a flip chip is much less expensive than Superchips.
Thanks for the reply, and the info! I pick the truck up this weekend (pending any more blizzards), so i'll be looking into a chip soon after that. I'll be sure to give you a call to work out the details.
