You'll see an actual burn mark, mine were about a 1/2 in long. It melts the actual foam. The wire may look fine but if there's a burn mark then it's bad. Cut out that section of wire and solder it back together if you can, some people used new wire, I just pulled them together and soldered them, I then sleeved the insulation of #12 wire over the solder to insulate it.

Are there any options if you can't solder? I've proven to be pretty bad at it....

Judging from the TrailBlazer board, I could just get a whole new element. Anyone have any insight as to where I could get one cheap?

Still seems like it would be easier to fix the old one, but I guess if I can't solder, I don't have many options.

You could just cut out the bad portion and splice in a normal wire (16/18 gauge would prob be best) with butt-connectors. The higher gauge of the spliced in portion (prob 2-3 inches) wouldn't "heat" but would solve the problem and allow the rest of the element to heat.

I was wondering if that would be possible or not. I've got plenty of 18ga wire at home, so that won't be an issue!! Looks like I've got a project lined up for the next weekend at home......

Hey guys, working on this issue now. I've got the seat out and partly taken apart, but I can't figure out for the life of me how to remove the lumbar support adjustment ****. Any clues? I put a new post up in the superduty section on this as well, but am posting here too in hopes of getting some guidance ASAP. Need to get the seat back together and in by tonight (hopefully with a working seat heater!).

P.S. I'm taking pictures and will put a new post up when I'm done so that hopefully someone else can do this faster than it's taking me!!

Nevermind... you just have to pry it WAY WAY harder than you want to. Finally got the screwdrivers in the right place and it popped off. Back to work!
