My 2006 is making a loud whining noise when the motor revs. It does this regardless of whether the AC is on, and the noise gets loader as the RPM go up. It is not a belt squeal, but sounds to me like the power steering unit. I checked the fluid and the levels are fine. I did drop some Lucas PS fluid in there a few months back, maybe it didn't like the Lucas. Also, when I turn the wheels hard when parking, it'll cause the engine to almost stall. A friend told me that a kink in the line could cause this. If so, how do I fix it? Any other ideas? If I have to have the PS pump replaced, how much are we talking?
Why did you add the Lucas fluid? Was the PS fluid low?
If so, there could be air in the PS system, causing the noise. Cavitation will burn these pumps up quicker than anything.
If it's not air, it may just be the pump failing. How many miles are on it? Typical pump + install is several hundred dollars.
Sounds like your pump is bad, especially with the symptoms you describe. The lines won't kink unless you did something and moved them. If you had to add fluid, you must have a bad seal someplace or the pump is leaking.
