New to the website, I have a 91 F250, she's got a 460, 6 inch lift, 35's, axles have been swapped out for dana 44 / 10.25 rear. Recently Ive been having the starter issues. I push the clutch down turn it over, i can hear the starter cranking, but its not turning the whole motor over. So I went down bought a new starter threw it in, worked for a few days and started acting up again (returned the core too ). A
sounds like you have some teeth missing on the flywheel.....
that or they are wore down so much you need to remove a shim and tighten the specs back up.....but that would still be due to teeth wore down on the flywheel i think
it is very possible you got a bad new starter as well.....if the bendix took a dump most likely the starter would either lock up like mine did, or just spin....i just replaced my factory original 17 y/o one about a month back.......where did you buy the replacement at ?
did you upgrade the connection at the starter? factory was a push on spade connector, the updated one is nut and bolt style already on the new starter, you have to cut your old spade connector off and splice the wire.....
EDIT: the old style spade connector is bad for corroding from the inside out,it wasnt very weather proof,(i had to cut back about 4-5 inches to get nice clean copper wire again) and if your taking the truck swimming, this very well may be your problem..
Ok thanks for all the info. I pulled the starter, looked at the fly wheel, it seems to be only grabbing the very edge of the gear, which chips the metal, almost like hte fly wheel is too far away to get a good bite. I turned the motor over by hand to a different spot of the fly wheel, started up with a little clicks. Do I need to replace the whole fly wheel? Or is there somthing else I could do?
