IPR question - torn screen (pic

I started to take the HPOP out and removed the IPR. The IPR screen is torn. Since the dealer just replaced my oil cooler should I open it up and check the screen below the oil cooler? Does a torn ipr screen result from a torn oil cooler screen? Can I just take apart the oil cooler and reuse gaskets? Any help would be appreciated.

A torn IPR screen usually means some foreign debris made its way through the passage under oil cooler. This is the very reason it is crucially important to use a blow gun to blow off any and all surrounding debris before removing the oil cooler so that nothing falls in. I see you still have your STC fitting. NOW, would be the time to install the update one-piece branch tube connector.

Thanks m-chan68,

The IPR screen has sand caught in it. I know they did not clean out the valley because even though I pressure washed the engine before I started my tear down there was still sand left in there. I suspect the sand has gone thru. Will it/has probably scarred the injector oil side?

Here is a shot of the old worn down unison ring. In your opinon should the tech have advised me on replaceing it? Would you have put it back together with this amount of wear?

I did buy the updated STC kit. I have the classic no start hot issue and was taking the HPOP out for this very same reason. Got the stand pipe kit that IRC you recommended that comes with both tubes and dummy plugs. Just ran into this ipr issue though.

ipr damaged more then likly caused by improper cleaningf around oil cooler befor removal. some times no matter how much we clean it still happens.
the unison ring should be replaced. they are available.

Thanks Cheezit, I did buy a new when I saw how worn this one was. I am waiting on a rebuild kit for my turbo to put it all back together. Here a pic.

Can I take oil cooler out and reuse gaskets if everything checks out?

Damn, I just openned the STC kit (4C3Z-9B246-F) and noticed it came with a new IPR screen tip. Just after I had ordered a new Ford IPR from ebay for $103. Just putting this out there so other can learn from my mistake.

odds are you are gonna need the new ipr. I dont think a screen will fix it. the screens work great if there sucked in or restriced. no so great when the screen has a hole in it.
