I am a proud owner of this 72 f100 4x4. It has a 250ci motor, 4 speed tranny, and I know that the rear is a dana 60.
Does anyone know what type of trans this could be? I am planning on doing a 351 swap(from what I understand it is the same bolt pattern as the 250) and what the front axle is. Also if there is any mods you guys would do to make it a good daily driver.
Thanks in advance
Nathan

Reason: Engine size
If you have a 6 cylinder, it is a 240 or 300. The rear is a Ford 9 inch, not a flanged semi-floating Dana 60 more than likely. The trans is a New Process NP-435 with a Dana 21 single speed transfer case. To find out all that you would like to know, send in the info on the warranty sticker that is on the cab pillar under the door striker.
To make it a good daily driver, keep the 240/300. The rpm range works real well for going around town. The simple mods like a 4bbl, intake, and exhaust will make a big difference.
If it's a Dana 60 out back, it'll say on the casting by the diff cover. Same with the Dana44 up front. They cast a little '44' or '60' into the housing. If it's a 9"(most likely), then it wont have a diff cover. It drops out from the front.

The engine is not original it is out of a Falcon. I am pretty sure it is a 250 by the looks of it. I also notice that the rear end was a 60 when I was loading it because the new paint on it had caught my eye and it had a differential cover so I crawled under to have a closer look and saw the little 60 on the right hand side. I will have to get back to you on the warranty sticker because it is at a storage facility. Wife said it was to ugly to park out in front of our house.

The body is in better shape then I thought it would be for 400 dollars and yes those are bullet hole. It looks like everything from a 9 mm to a 45 cal. It also has some exit holes on the other side. Nothing a welder can't fix.
Thanks for all the replays. I will start a build thread once I get some room in my garage to drag it home.

This is the numbers on the door tag if you could decode it I would really appreciate it.
Also I am pretty sure the engine is not operational. Is it still worth saving or should I do a V-8 swap.
