Lighting issue

I am trying to figure out a lighting issue on my truck. The dome light nor the gauge lights will come on in my truck. I thought it was the bulb, but the brake light will come on so I switched bulbs around and the others are good. I read somewhere that the headlight switch could cause this, if so how do I check it without buying a new one? If not what else could be the problem? I know the fuse is good and as of yet haven't found the harness opened anywhere to say anyone has been in the wires and the rest of the wires look good to as far as I can tell with out pulling the cluster out and going in to the dash to far.

You might try wiggling around the old fuses. They are not to relibable after 30 years of corrosion. As for testing the light switch you could take the plug off it and try jumping the wires on it but it would be a lot of agrivation and new ones run $15-$30 bucks, so your call there. Good luck with it though.

Check and clean all grounds

Don't forget that old vehicle wiring connectors tend to have High resistance, which can cause all sorts or bizarre behavior. Start by removing and cleaning all ground connections throughout the vehicle, one connection at a time.

You can measure resistance or voltage drops in circuits with an inexpensive volt-ohm meter. There are many good web resources or books that will help you out.
