HERE'S ONE FOR YOU GUY'S TO FIGURE OUT.
I GOT IN MY TRUCK THIS MORNING AND NOTICED THAT THE HEATER FAN WAS STILL RUNNING!! I ALSO NOTICED THAT I COULD ROLL DOWN THE WINDOWS TOO. THE PROBLEM THAT I HAVE IS THAT THE KEYS FOR THE TRUCK WERE STILL IN MY POCKET!! WHEN I STARTED THE TRUCK I KEPT HEARING A SINGLE TONE GOING OFF ABOUT EVERY 2 SECONDS. IT FINALLY SILENCED ITSELF AFTER A MINUTE BUT THE TRUCKS FAN MOTOR AND WINDOWS STILL OPERATE WITHOUT THE KEYS IN THE IGNITION. THE TRUCK IS A 2002 FI50 SUPERCREW 4X4 WITH 5500 MILES ON IT WITH A FX4 PACKAGE AND A 4.6L ENGINE. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED.
I've seen a few that did this and it was due to water in the fuse box and/or the GEM module. You should probably take the truck to your dealer and have them fix it. Usually the windshield will need to be resealed as it is probably leaking water in. After that is done they will probably need to replace the fuse box and/or the GEM.
I had a really weird thing happen during hard rains. my key in the ignition tone still goes off and the windows still go up and down with out the key in. During the rain the fan was blowing, the air bag passanger on/off was blinking, the dome light would go from bright to dim. Looked and looked never found a trace of water. Been serval months and has not happened again. Not to mention it has rained since
Just wanted to tell you that you were right in your diagnosis on my electrical problem. I took it to the dealer and he said that there was a leak in the winshield seal and it did short out the fuse panel. He called me in to tell me that they had to replace the entire windshield because you could push it out of the seal by simply pressing your hands against it (pretty scary)! One thing that I found out about Ford's warranty repair is that they won't supply you with a vehicle for free while your's is in the shop. My truck was in the shop for 3 days and I had to rent a vehicle. My cost was $11.00 a day for a small toyota(ford picked up the rest of the bill). You would think they would supply you with a free vehicle for your inconvienence. So far I've had to repaint the hood because of a defect, change the steering box because of a defect, and now this. The truck has only 5400 miles on it, I'm beginning to think it's possesed! Hey, but thanks again for the help.
Thanks for posting the results and the fix
I think it might be up to the dealer as to whether or not you pay for a loaner car. Where I work they are free usually.
