I have one, I went with the straight zerk because I was worried about clearance with the 90 degree and u-joint

FYI- you will have to engage your front end to rotate u-joint to gain clearance, knuckle is usually in the way

Couldn't even install a zerk in mine up top, same problem, clearances. Very nice adapter though.

Yes you can, I installed 90 degree ones in the top ball joints. The clearance is close but it will fit, been in mine a couple of years no problems.

The ones I used are 1/4"X28 90degree, I don't remember whether they came from Auto Zone or O'Reilly's. They are aggravating to install but work fine.

Not all the trucks clear the fitting. Mine would rub and I know Kris snapped one of his off while in 4x4 even though it cleared the joint normally. Test it out before you go driving.

Mine did not clear, I pull the plug, install a fitting, grease, then remove and reinstall the plug. Kind of a pain but I have yet to find a zerk that clears.

Would a straight zerk clear? Thats what some of the guys are doing and they use the adapter pictured at the top of the thread. No need to permanently hook it to the grease gun either. Just thread a grease fitting into the end of the adapter and pop it on the gun when you need to do those fittings.

I use a straight zerk and the fitting originally listed I had to grind the back side of the fitting a little to fit(and you can grind it too much),I am thinking of grinding the zerk a little too because it is still a tight fit.

A straight zerk clears easily on my '01. I use the pictured adapter. I just found some old SAE zerks in a drawer - nothing fancy or Metric.

But - don't get the adapter (made in China) sold at Pep Boys - it did not work at all. I got one at NAPA and it works well. The NAPA one fits VERY tightly (as it must) and seals well. The Pep Boys version had softer plastic in it, and leaked grease profusely and never allowed grease into the joint.

General concensus suggest that most ball joint failures are the lower ball joints, from what I've seen over the years so I make sure my lowers are grease every oil change, sometimes even more depending.
