I like to browse the Google Books editions of Popular Science. Sometimes you find some surprising info.
In the June 1955 issue, they discussed catalytic converters as a solution to smog problems. Probably was a lot of engineering required before they were practical. However, when they were introduced, it was announced as if they had just been discovered.
Also came across an article in an earlier issue discussing the warming of the seas and the loss of ice. They blamed it on some natural oceanic phenomenom.

mmhhmmmm . you ever noticed how chevy and gmc tout there new full length power " sun roof" on one of their suv's ??? like it's new . studebaker had that option on a 60's era station wagon for sure i know of and maybe someone far before then .how about e85 fuel being so new and the co's hyping the new technology they have developed to use it . i'll be da--ed if ol' henry didn't design his original engines to run off an alchohol made from hemp i believe , and he was working with the good mr. deisel to develope an deisel engine that ran off i believe it was oil derived from peanuts ..... memory isn't too clear on it all but i think that's right ............. lot's of other things too . global warming ... i don't even want to get started on all that bull sh-- and what i think of everyones scare tactics to get us too go " green" .
