The simplest things can sure be frustrating.... Was stopped last Tues on the way to my night class at the college for no brake lights. Just a verbal warning... no big deal, right? After checking bulbs, wires, fuses, seems all that's left is "stop light switch" on the back of the master cylinder. Just looked through Mac's and Mid-Fifties... no switch. Question: Are these things easy to come by from the neighborhood parts store? I guess I could wait till tomorrow and ask them myself... or... is it possible that I have missed something obvious? thanks. himmelberg
You can test your brake light switch, first pull both wires off and with a test light see if one wire is hot, if it's hot then put that one back on and have someone step on the brake while you touch the other terminal with the test light, if it lights up it's good and if it doesn't then it's bad. Sacramento Vintage Ford sells the switch for $5.00 1939-66 pt. # 5249 or check with a Napa store near you or you can check with the online store on this site to see if they carry it.

... simple fix for simple problem. Thanks darkhorse. Switch was bad... Autozone surprised themselves and me by having the switch for a '54... it was 3 bucks.
