super mileage

just got to romulus mich. yesterday and got 19.5mpg w/15mph tail wind most of the time! (hand calculated)Breeze definately helped, but that was still pretty exciting! just had to share this, which by the way is my first empty highway tank ever, the lie o meter said 16.9mpg, that thing is truly worthless.

Well congrats! I have driven mine cross country empty one time, When new and 15.5 is about all I got.

It was winter though.

I have gotten close to 17 heading down to GA. Feels great don't it!

yes, it's very cool because usually I've got the trailer on when I'm going somewhere and I'm getting 8-9mpg. I just turned 38,000 today.

The most I've seen so far was about 17.5 for a full tank (hand calculated). I've seen the meter go over 18 before on the highway, but it goes back down after I get in some side streets. Mostly I am around 16 daily driving.

I just got my cap on though, so I might loose a bit of mileage. I'm still under 5000 miles on the ticker too so it isn't fully broken in. I haven't "done the deed" and run it super hard yet (one of these days I'll snag a trailer, a load, and give it a good yank as Scott says to seat everything )

Wow, if I could get 19.5, I might keep this one. I'm guessing with a sail I couldn't get that. Before my injectors were replaced I averaged 16 and after, I average 14. Hmmpf.

My 6.4L averaged between 15-16 on the highway at 65 MPH when I had it.

Now I average between 19-21 and have seen as high as 22...

I couldn't get 19 mpg if I drove the truck off a mountain without a parachute.......15 running solo is average, 11 towing, the lie-o-meter says I do about 3 mpg better than the hand calc figures.... It lies real good.......My old 7.3 got 22 running solo and 14-15 towing, I miss that truck.

I forgot to mention, besides the sail, my truck could't get that kind of mileage going downhill, on ice, on skates, in neutral with the engine off. You have a dually so that drags you down a bit.

Yeah, my lie-o-meter has been dead on so far, my last tank was hand-calculated at 19.4.

That's a tough question to answer because it all depends on what you're towing. Highway MPGs are dependent more on wind resistance, therefore the frontal area of what you're towing makes the biggest difference. Around town weight will matter more than wind resistance.

Therefore there's no good number. I haven't towed much with my 6.7L truck yet, but I remember getting around 12 with my enclosed car hauler. My '08 6.4L got around 9 with that same trailer. Most of us have seen around a 20% improvement in fuel economy.

had a 6.4 kept it a few years and mileage was horrible, would not drive it, traded it in on a 6.7 and never looked back, consistently get 19-21 mpg already have 5000 miles on it and ride cant compare, best thing i ever did

I really enjoyed my 6.4L truck, it was my first diesel. I loved everything about it except the mileage, which is something I could live with.

It only had 15,000 miles on it when it was wrecked, I barely got to know it! I almost bought another one, was real tempted to pick up a leftover 2010 6.4L truck to save some money.

In the end I'm very happy with the new truck. Only 2,800 miles on it so far, I'm hoping the mileage will improve with time like my 6.4L did.
