m5od heavy duty model?
which m5o2 is the HD model the r1 or r2. right now my 4.9l has the LD model and i found a guy i am probably going to buy the trans and a 5.0l motor from. the motor has 103,000 miles on it. the guy wont sell them seperate but he wants $300 for both. the HD model of the m5od is what caught my eye. he was going to fix it cause it needed slave cylinder but he wanted to do a 4spd swap and dump box on the truck so he just put the 4spd in. the m5od he said you can split it apart or something and add stuff which i cant remember what he said.. when he showed me the trans it looks longer than the LD model i got but its out of the truck and mine is still in so it could be the same, i didnt know if i needed a different driveshaft for the HD model. it does come with the transfer case also which would be nice.
anyone on here have a HD m5od and how does it do for you?
i know the difference is the HD has closer gear ratios

As far as I know, there's only one version of the Mazda M5OD that uses the 300/302/351 bolt pattern. I'm thinking it's R2, but don't know for sure. There was a heavy duty 5-speed used in F250-F350 trucks, sometimes called an M5OD-HD, but that's a ZF S5-42 (or -47). That one has wider spaced ratios than the Mazda unit and has a granny gear first.
