I got one of a Crown Vic - it was louder than the factory one in my truck, same sound tho - they both chimed, no annoying buzzing sound.

Im a bit unclear on this. Is the part in question actually a chimer, or a buzzer? Sounds like a lot of you guys have buzzers. My Dad had a 96 XL that had a buzzer (God awful nonstop chainsaw noise). My 91 has a chimer (ultra soothing slow ding noise). Im interested in a new chime cause mine is dead. Let us know where you find one!

You guys are whiners.

lol, j/k.

The 80-83 trucks had the option to have two buzzers, one for ignition on/seatbelts, and the other for headlights on. If you think one buzzer is bad try having two. I'm currently trying to figure out if chimers will work in my truck or not. Gonna have to pick some up from the junkyard for my truck and do the plug and play thing.

BTW, my dad's 87 F150 had a chimer. I have no idea if it was original, but if it was replaced it wasn't by my dad.

the PO of my F150 unplugged it, I plugged it in because, well, yeah buzzing is annoying but not as annoying as that "OH S--NOOOOO" you do just when you remember the keys are in fact, still in the ignition because your girlfriend called and bugged you and interrupted your procedure list for getting out.

Or when you happily drag your carcass from work out to your truck, sprawl on the seat and go "WTF? START!" only to find out you left your headlights on for 8 hours and your battery is a non-eco friendly boat anchor.

My main problem with them is that I live out in the country and we leave the keys in our daily drivers. If you leave it hooked up, the stupid key chime goes off and everyone knows your keys are in it. If it don't go off, the guy may be a moron and leave it alone. And, the sound is just irritating every time you open the door. If the Ford ignition-key-sensor thing worked like a GM, where you can pull the key out like 1/4in, that would be fine.

There is an easy solution to that particular issue - there is a thin wire with a small ring terminal bolted to the ignition lock cylinder, pull the wire off the lock and tape it off - no more annoying buzz with the key in the ignition.

I've always kept the practice of keys-in-pocket, lock the door. My truck(as well as my tools) are too valuable to me
if they wanna get in it to steal stuff they have to break something and hot wire it, and by the time that happens a very unhappy owner may be behind them with a 2' chrome persuasion tool

so this would eliminate the key in ignition and door opened chime, but not the headlight chime? If so, I'm going to put mine back in and do that.

Yeah, I may try to fix mine too. The headlight chime would be nice.

I have a chime in my 94. It works with seat belts but not with headlights on and switch off. Need to pull the switch connector and see if its burnt and melted.
