Replaced Low Pressure Fuel Pump

In front tank in a 87 f-150 302, but truck still dies.

If I switch to rear fuel tank everything works great ?

I can hear the front fuel pump running fine.

There is gas in the tank.

Any Idea ????

Do I need to replace the high pressure fuel pump ?

I just replace the high pressure fuel pump and there still is a problem.

I can hear the high pressure pump get really loud like it is getting not fuel.

Could it be that black round container that connect both tanks together ????

I think you just answered your own question try replacing that black canister..I think that will make it work

It was the black round container.

Everything working great...

I was wondering, what is the black cannister called? I took mine off and need to get a new o-ring for it. I'm afraid that parts man won't know what I'm talking about.

It is called a Dual Function Reservoir - 9B263 (base part number).

Here is a diagram of it.

That part looks similar but mine looks like it might be deeper. I has a fuel pick-up tube sticking down into it plus there isn't a filter in it. I took it apart because my Haynes book said older model Rangers have that type of filter and the newer model have the traditional inline filter. (It didn't break it down as to whether '89 fell under "new" or "old". I didn't see the inline filter initially and ended up opening this thing up.
