So I got a near complete 6" lift off craiglist for real cheap. All I need is to fab the drop bracket for the track bar and fab the sway bar extensions. I started it sunday afternoon, mistake! Worked on it and hour or two each night after work, untill done(almost).
They are 38's, but theyre kinda trashed. Gonna try 37's next and 35's if need be. The 38's dont feel bad at all. No noticeable loss of power or torque. 5.4 with 4.10's
yeah, disconnected the sway bar the 2nd time I went offroad, the first time being the test drive. Had it disc for years, thought the sway bar would help due to extra height of truck.
But I am definitely feeling the lack of the track bar. Every bump jerks the wheel, especially cause the drop pitman is still on the work bench, couldnt wait to drive it down the street!
Very dangerous....Do the track rod correctly or you will have issues big time...need a drop pitman and a drop bracket so the two rods are parrallel.
Thanks for the concern, I know I need them, just getting there slowly.
Not really too dangerous, how long have there been front leaf sprung vehicles before common use of the track bar? 100 years? Its more of a comfort and high speed driveability thing. The track bar alleviates bump steer, especially on lifted trucks where it more noticeable. Also, hinders articulation when it comes to leafs. I have a '63 wagoneer and it has 9" of lift with just leaf springs and a z-shaped drag link. The bump steer is barely noticeable. But its also not to be loaded, tow with and hit 75 on the freeway.
Yeah, I'm pretty familliar with the geometry. What surprised me was the rear end. The lift blocks angle the pinion up, lessening the angle. But the lift increases the angle at the trans. My angles are definitely out from where they should be, but I'm seeing this is common for 90% of lifts out there. Yet, there are no vibes at all from the rear or driveline?
