Hi All
Might be the wrong area in which to ask this question but I am trying to figure a way to load either a full dressed Harley or my ATV in the bed of my F350. I have found ramps on the web that cost and arm and a leg and was wondering if anyone has built their own ramps for such a purpose?
Whatever you get.... make sure it is properly rated for the load.
There is a reason it is an arm and a leg everywhere.
FYI, one way to not load a bike is to use its own power to run up the ramp, and have it get away on you.
If I were building a ramp for a hawg, I would build a "full width" ramp, and then --- have a 12V electrical winch with a remote to do the heavy lifting and lowering.
I got 8' long boards and purchased ramp lips from harbor freight and they work great for my Quads. I have a trailer but some times one goes in the bed.
The ramp lips bolt on the end of the wood and have an angled piece of metal that is flush with the wood and the bed of my truck.
to load my atv into my truck(on a 8inch lift) i simply bought treated 2 8 foot long 2X10'S and the brackets for your tailgate from lowes for 20$ i installed eyebolts to strap them to the tow package so they stay put. i even went as far as to put metal lath(chicken wire) on the face of the boards to eliminate sliping in wet conditions. but to load a road bike i would agree with a full width ramp purpose built.
I was thinking about the 2 x 8s or 2 x 10s but it seems they are not heavy duty enough to load a 850lb motorcycle on. Would I be right in that assumption? Thanks. Maybe I will just have to fork out the 300-600.00 to get a dedicated motorcycle ramp to support its weight and do the boards for my ATV. Or I could just drive my bike but that would leave my Wife to drive the truck towing a 9000 lb travel trailer If you saw my Wife drive my truck you would understand
I have a trifold alum. ramp rated at 1500# at harbor freight tools for loading quads in the back of my truck and the cost was only $75.00 I have not loaded any big Harley's with it.

Don't forget to add your weight and a helpers to that.
