Question Ignition problems

My truck has been sitting for 2 weeks and will not run. I went to start it early and it was trying. It will try to run until you let off the key and it will cough, spit, and back-fire then and die. Me and my dad hooked jumper cables to his truck and tried to jump it and still nothing. It is covered in moisture but we spraid out the carb, coil and distibutor cap. Also when it does run it sounds off time but I wouldn't think it would just drop off like that (sometimes it sounds like 1 or 2 cylinders are not even running but try again and they will work.) It is a 1979 F-100, 2wd, 351M 5.8L with a 2 barrrel carb. Any ideas on this will be greatly appreciated.

-Thanks

Quick guess, the timing chain may have jumped on the cam gear.

Sounds about right to me. It's also possible the distributor drive gear pin sheared.

Or it's just flooded because of the wet ignition. Try re-drying the ignition and holding the choke open when you next try to start it. Also check the tailpipe to make sure no critters have set up residence there.
Just my 2¢
