Question Dent side trim question

I have been looking at a whole bunch or rigs and on the net...even checked in the DC and LMC catalogs but it seems that the side moulding trim on my 73 is different than most others. it's plain...doesn't have the vinyl/rubber insert running through the middle.

Does anyone else got this? Why do i have it? Is there anything special with it?

Not terribly uncommon, my dads 79 F-250 ranger has the same stuff. Not sure I've seen it for sale. Try Jeffs bronco graveyard maybe, good luck.

Upper side mouldings without vinyl inserts: 1973/79 Customs...as an option, so not all trucks have them.

Upper side mouldings with vinyl inserts: 1973/76 Ranger/Ranger XLT's, 1977/79 Rangers.

1977/79 Ranger XLT's & 1978/79 Lariats came with "Race Track" mouldings.

The fender, door and cab corner vinyl mouldings are the same.

The quarter panel mouldings used with Race Track mouldings are unique, as their ends are different to accept the vertical mouldings that connect the upper mouldings to the lower mouldings.

The vinyl insert and the Race Track mouldings have been reproduced by Dennis Carpenter.

All these various mouldings are obsolete.

The upper mouldings without the vinyl inserts have not been reproduced. These were not offered on 1978/79 Bronco's.

The only sources for NOS parts will be a few Ford Dealers and obsolete parts vendors, ebay, swap meets and Hemmings Motor News.

My truck is a 74 Ranger, and has the trim pictured above without the vinyl insert. I haven't looked yet, but does anyone know if you can get new clips for that trim? Its skinnier trim, so it uses smaller clips.

Thanks,
Josh

mine is perfect all around except for a little overspray and it needs polished...besided that i'm waiting to find the right clip for my cab corner to put them on. one clip on one side broke...

so as questioned above where to get the clips...and if anyone has an exact part number...that'd be awesome...since i'd rather know from experience than order the wrong one. thanks to all

Maybe this will make you feel better...

D3TZ9929038F .. Right Quarter Panel (bedside) Upper Side Moulding-without vinyl insert / Short Bed / As original, the mldg comes w/clips / Obsolete

NOS PARTS SOURCE in Lenexa KS has ONE = 913-220-5746.

No Ford Dealer, no other obsolete parts vendor has any.
------------------------------------------------------
Since the clips came with the mouldings, most dealers did not carry them, making it difficult to find them NOS.

Flat_Ford: Upper cab corner moulding w/o vinyl insert. There are two clips, they are different from one another. Which clip do you need-front or rear?

It may be possible to find the moulding, I need to know which side. And...I will need the last 6 digits of your trucks VIN, because there were two different mouldings used in 1973.

The 1973/79 Ford LIGHT Truck Parts Catalog is available on a CD from hipoparts.com.

Nice looking trim. I prefer it over the style with the vinyl inserts.

Hopefully Olathe KS can hook you up with new??

But if not I have a spare long bed (yea I know you said shortbed) with that exact chrome that's good on both bed sides with mount clips.....send me a PM if interested there Summerwild.

Once you get something like 25 posts you can send and receive PM's (private messages).
